Trash the Mess: Spring Cleaning Tips That Actually Work

Spring in Minnesota means two things: unpredictable weather and a whole lot of clutter that somehow snuck up over winter. Lucky for you, it’s officially spring cleaning season—and Sweetman Sanitation is here to make clearing out the chaos a whole lot easier (and maybe even a little fun).

We’re a local, family crew that takes trash seriously (but not ourselves). Whether you're trying to reclaim your garage from an old treadmill-turned-clothes-rack or you're finally parting ways with that broken mini fridge you've been “meaning to fix,” we’ve got your back.

Spring Cleaning Tips from Your Trash-Talking Neighbors

We’ve hauled just about everything over the years, so trust us—when it comes to cleaning house, we’ve got some advice:

  • Declutter one mess at a time. Don’t try to tackle the whole house in one go (unless you’ve got superpowers—then call us, we’ve got questions).

  • Use the three-pile system: Keep, donate, or “get this outta my sight.”

  • Need more than your weekly pickup can handle? We’ve got roll-offs for that. We’re talking everything from 2-yard to 8-yard beasts, depending on how deep your junk drawer goes.

Got Junk? We’ve Got You Covered.

Sweetman Sanitation is teaming up with local communities to host Clean-Up Days—aka your golden ticket to ditch that eyesore in the backyard without judgment (we’ve seen worse, promise).

Local Clean Up Days:

📍 EchoApril 12
📍 MortonApril 26
📍 Granite Falls – May 2
📍 MarshallMay 10
📍 Lower Sioux Indian Community – June 2–7

Each Clean-Up Day is a little different. Some have rules about what you can toss, and a few items might come with small fees (sorry, but tires aren’t cheap to handle). Be sure to check the details for your local event.

What Can You Toss?

✔️ Old furniture (yes, even that broken recliner you’ve been avoiding)
✔️ Scrap metal & appliances (some restrictions apply)
✔️ Electronics (might come with a small fee)
✔️ Tires (fees apply)
✔️ General household junk

🚫 What’s a no-go? Paint, chemicals, liquids, and other hazardous stuff. Basically, if it sounds like it might explode, melt, or ooze—don’t bring it. Check with your event for specifics!

Let’s Clean Up Our Communities—Together

We’re proud to serve Redwood, Renville, Yellow Medicine, and Lyon Counties—not just with trash service, but with a real investment in keeping our neighborhoods looking good and feeling fresh. Clean-Up Days are a perfect excuse to finally tackle that spring cleaning list and make room for what really matters (like your lawn chairs, patio dreams, and that shiny new grill).

Still not sure what you can bring or need help figuring out which dumpster fits your spring clean vibes? Give us a shout. We’re your go-to garbage crew with answers, advice, and just the right amount of sarcasm.
