Redwood County Pheasants Forever Youth Hunt 2023

The local Redwood County chapter of Pheasants Forever is hosting an upcoming youth and new shooter pheasant hunt on October 28th, 2023.

Why Are We Talking About Pheasants Forever on a Garbage Website?

Community is a big part of who we are.

Two of the owners, Ray and Shannon Sweetman, have been involved with Redwood County Pheasants Forever (RCPF) through volunteering and serving on the board for years because they support the mission of conservation. Jon Sweetman has also been involved through volunteering and now serving on the board as well. One of the great things about RCPF is that not only are they dedicated to the conservation of pheasants, quail and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies and programs but the dollars they raise to support that mission stay local.

Youth Hunt

Long story made short, we’re talking about Pheasants Forever on our website because community is important to who we are. We live here. We work here. We volunteer here. And we want to share some of the wonderful things that are happening in our communities with more people.

Youth & New Shooter Pheasant Hunt

As in previous years, this year’s hunt allows for youth 12 through 17 years of age, with a valid hunter’s safety certificate, as well as new or inexperienced hunters 18 years old. The hunt will take place on Saturday, October 28th with the welcome and safety briefing held at 8am at Runnings in Redwood Falls.

New This Year

In an effort to allow youth under the age of 12 without a valid hunter’s safety certificate to experience hunting, Ray Sweetman and Bob Wetmore are organizing a new opportunity at this year’s Youth & New Shooter Pheasant Hunt. With parental guardian permission, kiddos under 12 can sign up to have a one-on-one experience. These students will receive additional guidance on hunting and safety best practices as well as work in a dedicated area in hopes of having a better opportunity at harvesting a bird.

Important Details

The Redwood County Pheasants Forever (RCPF) will not be requiring an adult partner to be present during the hunt. Lunch will be provided to shooters who join the chapter. Trap shooting and sporting clays will also be available. The shells and fees are covered by the RCPF. Most importantly, don’t forget to dress for the weather! We will be walking through fields. Wear boots, pants, your orange clothing and additional layers if weather permits.
